How we got here

Our Story

A love story, told by the two people least qualified to be objective about it. We added our names so you know exactly who to blame.

Natalya and Michael

The short version

A nervous video call, a piano used as a backdrop, and two people who leaned in until they were all the way in. Here it is, in our own words.

MikeSeveral years single. Thousands of swipes. The first time I saw her, my brain went, "well, she is way out of my league."
NatalyaEleven years of dating, and that day I was just floating on air. I insisted on a video call. No phone, no endless texting.
MikeSo I set up a tripod at my piano, nice art on the wall, to hide the messy house, and greeted her with a confident "Hello, Tasha." It was the only name I had. It was on her profile.
NatalyaI'd said first dates feel like a job interview. So Mike says, "Let's just pretend it is our one-year anniversary."
MikeAnd then I planned out our entire first year. Month by month. Before date number one.
NatalyaFor me it wasn't a lightning bolt. It was wading into the ocean, a little at a time, until we were both completely, hopelessly all in.
MikeFull disclosure: this is marriage number three for me. Slow learner. But every wrong turn was pointing me right here.
NatalyaThird time is a charm. You are my home. Love and laughter, in that order.
And here we are, nine months later, making it official. See you on October 9th.

Travel

San Francisco · ~45 min

San Jose · ~60 min

Flying in

Oakland (OAK) is closest and easiest, about 25 minutes from the venue. SFO and San Jose are good alternatives. Sample nonstop fares we've seen: Seattle around $247, Chicago to Oakland around $371.

Most guests arrive Thursday, October 8 and leave Sunday the 11th. Flying from Seattle? Friday is a Huskies game night, so consider coming Thursday to dodge the crowds.

Getting around

To reach the venue itself, a rental car or rideshare is simplest, it's up a canyon road, so allow a few extra minutes. If you're staying near Pleasant Hill BART, you can skip the car for airport trips (see below).

🚉 Flying into SFO? Take BART, no car needed

From SFO you can ride BART straight to the Pleasant Hill / Contra Costa Centre station and back, a direct train (no transfers), running about every 15 minutes.

~1 hr 10 min
SFO → Pleasant Hill
~$12–15
each way

Ride SFO → Pleasant Hill on the way in and Pleasant Hill → SFO on the way home. From that station it's a very short walk to both the Renaissance and Embassy Suites hotels.

Pay with a Clipper card or the Clipper app. Live schedules, fares, and real-time trains: bart.gov.

The evening read

Our celebration runs about 5:00 to 9:30 PM. Expect it to start around 63 to 66°F and cool to roughly 55 to 58°F by the last dance. Every year in the data landed in that same range, so it's a safe bet.

Bring a wrap or light jacket for the back half of the evening. Patio heaters will be running too.

Based on Open-Meteo historical reanalysis for Lafayette, Oct 8 to 12, 2021 to 2025. We'll show a live forecast as the date gets close.

What’s a HEIC?

HEIC is the format iPhones use for photos by default. It packs the same quality as a JPG into about half the file size.

It’s not a Live Photo, a Live Photo is a still image plus a short video clip. A HEIC is just the still photo, in Apple’s newer format.

The catch: HEIC opens perfectly on Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac), but not always on Windows, Android, or older apps. So we give you two options:

Your presence is truly the only gift we need, because at this stage we have everything, including many toasters, blenders and enough kitchenware to open a small café.

If you'd still like to give a little something, our honeymoon fund would be thrilled. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

FAQ

What should I wear?
Dressy and snappy, we'd love everyone to look nice. Think cocktail or semi-formal. Most important: bring warm layers. The evening turns cool and we want you comfortable. Patio heaters will be running too.
Can I bring a plus-one?
Your invitation and RSVP will show how many seats are reserved for you. The RSVP form lets you set your party size.
Is there parking, and how do I get there?
Yes, there is plenty of parking on site. A heads-up on the drive: Hunsaker Canyon Road is narrow and dark. Once you pass the canyon sign, it becomes a single shared lane in both directions, so slow down and be ready to pull over for oncoming cars. To make the night easy, consider taking or sharing an Uber from your hotel, and please plan a safe ride home.
What time should I arrive?
Plan to arrive between 4:30 and 4:45 PM and be seated by 4:50. The ceremony starts at 5:00 sharp.
How do I share my photos and videos?
During the wedding you'll be able to upload straight from your phone, no app or account needed. We'd love your videos as much as your photos. We want to see our wedding through your eyes.
